La Manufacture du Regard
Growing up in different places, from suburbs of South Carolina to cities and towns of India, I would always observe my surroundings and the people around me. From the quiet sunrises in towns to the vibrant sunsets of cities, I would see people embodying the energy of their atmosphere. Using photographs from my own life as reference, I compose drawings and glaze in layers to make oil paintings. I show subjects in their environments, and convey an overall harmony of the scene. My work draws attention to the moods of the subjects, like that of John Singer Sargent, while capturing the light, like Joaquin Sorolla. I find divinity in our everyday reality.
